breakfastpop

It's Friday, March 27th, and I am preparing spicy huevos (eggs) with salsa and chilies for breakfast. All I need is some butter, eggs, chilies, salsa and some salt. The eggs are almost perfectly cooked and as I wait for the salsa to heat up, I am reminded of the powerful and dangerous drug cartels that have a grip on Mexico as well as the United States. Suddenly...POP... I am no longer in the mood for spicy huevos and I am filled instead with fear and apprehension.

It has been reported over and over again that there are Mexican drug cartels operating in over 200 U.S. cities. Although there clearly have been attempts to break up these cartels, one has to wonder if enough is being done. The rise in population of Hispanic communities throughout the country has made it possible for cartel operatives to hide in plain sight by blending in with honest hard-working citizens.

Before the violence that threatens Mexico's existence spills over into our cities, the Obama administration must take steps to secure our borders and rid our cities of this dangerous criminal element. Clearly, this is a matter for Homeland Security and it must be dealt with swiftly and decisively.

I guess I won't be preparing Mexican food for a while. I just don't have a taste for it right now.

  1. You know that all of this talk about dealing with the “Mexico problem” is just a whole lotta lip service…Things won’t change because it is not in our politicians’’ best interests to make changes. Look at the state of our union today: we have porous borders, there is a fence on our southern border, or rather, I should say there are parts of fences on our southern border, and our border patrol is understaffed and underfunded. I understand that for many around the world, their homelands are stagnating, with corrupt leaders, broken education systems and no opportunities for better lives. You really don’t read much about the “Colombian dream” or the “Mexican dream”; just the American dream. The United States of America represents opportunity, hope, and freedom to hundreds or millions of people around the world. This is a great thing. Our country is one founded by immigrants, as we all know. But if we are talking about change; if we are talking about improving our country; then we need an immigration policy that makes sense. A policy that puts American citizens’ rights first. I am all for immigration, but legal immigration. I do not accept the lame excuse that we need the illegal workers to do jobs no one else will do. That is bull dinky, SOMEone would do it; especially today with the shabby state of our economy and growing unemployment….Nancy Pelosi should not be talking to illegal immigrants in a church, saying that the raids and incarcerations by our government must stop. And Hillary Clinton should not be saying that it is the Americans’ insatiable appetite for drugs which is fueling the Mexican drug cartels. Why should people who break the law by entering this country illegally receive protections that I, as an American citizen, breaking the law in my own land, would not? You know why, because Ms. Pelosi, like all other politicians who are wishy washy on the topic of immigration are pandering to the swelling population emigrating here from our southern border…

It was a vitamuffin morning. No coffee, though,

  2. Janie,
I'm surprised you have any appetite at all giving the current state of affairs regarding our "Mexican neighbors". There is growing and alarming evidence that the words "legal" and "constitutional" have lost their importance in our country. Illegal aliens are just that..people who are hear unlawfully and need to be dealt with with the full strength of the laws we already have in place. Apparently, those responsible for protecting our rights and enforcing our laws are asleep at the switch. It's time to wake them. It's time to do the right thing.

Do you put butter on your Muffin? Just curious.
